You have probably found yourself here because
you are interested in obtaining a Permit to Carry Pistols and
Revolvers issued by the State of
Connecticut
or a non-resident permit in another state that requires the
completion of the National Rifle Association's Basic Pistol
Class.
There is quite a bit of confusion as to the steps to take when
applying for this permit in
Connecticut. Basically, your first step
is to go to the local police department in the town in which you
live and request a Pistol Permit application. In the absence of
a local department you will get this application from the first
selectman in your town. When you pick up this application most
departments will also include an instruction page clearly
showing you the additional requirements you must meet prior to
the submission of your completed application.
One of those requirements is completion of a course in handgun
safety. Completion of the National Rifle Association's Basic
Pistol Class meets this requirement. The main objective of this
class is to teach the basic skills, knowledge and attitude
necessary for the safe and proper use of pistols and revolvers.
The Basic Pistol Class includes classroom
training on gun parts and operation, ammunition safety,
cleaning, storage, loading and unloading, shooting fundamentals,
range safety and pistol sports and activities. Students are then
required to complete a live fire exercise on the shooting range.
All classroom material, firearms, ammunition,
eye and ear protection and other needed range equipment is
provided for you.
In addition you will learn the ins and outs of
the permit process so that you can successfully apply for and
receive your permit. Connecticut laws are
discussed in general and information will be given on how to
follow up with advanced classes that get into more details about
the laws and advanced shooting skills. It is highly recommended
to follow up and take these courses once you receive your permit
and purchase your own handgun.
This class is also recognized by Florida and
will allow you to obtain a non resident Florida CCW license.
With both a CT and FL permit you will be able to possess and
carry a handgun in 33 states.
All classes will be held at Wolfe's
Indoor Range in Bristol, CT. The fee for the Basic Pistol Class is $110.
You can pay this fee the morning of the class (in cash only,
checks will not be accepted) or you can request a PayPal Invoice
(on the registration page). PayPal invoices must be paid one
week prior to the class date.
